The Dave Clark Story

About the book:

From the Preface:

I thought I knew Dave Clark. After having written several newspaper articles and a few columns about him, I figured I'd pretty much covered the basic story of his life. But each time we sat down together to delve into another fascinating piece of that wonderful story for this book, I realized how wrong I was.

I barely knew Dave at all. Oh, sure, I was quite familiar with the fact that he'd had polio as an infant, that his growth had been stunted and he'd had to use crutches to get around all his life and that, despite everything, he'd gone on to play, manage, coach and scout in professional baseball.

Those of us who knew even that much about him were awed by all he's accomplished. But there's so much more to the man, and to his life. And as I learned the many little stories behind the big story, I became even more amazed at what he's done. I hope this book will leave you feeling the same way.

I'm pleased and honored to have been Dave's teammate in the telling of this very inspiring story.

I want to thank him publicly now for that opportunity, and also for the many detailed notes and written accounts he provided, plus the many stimulating conversations we shared, as the book came together. I found Dave's ability to recall names, dates, places and events no less amazing than his many other accomplishments.
